My name is María Fátima Agüero. I am 48 years old and have been teaching English for the past 15 years. Over this time, I have gained experience across various levels of education, which has deeply enriched my understanding of both language teaching and learning.
For a decade, I worked at St. Hilda’s College, where I taught in the primary school. During part of that period, I also taught in Kindergarten. Our approach to English instruction was rooted in treating it as a first language, and we placed strong emphasis on the use of Phonics as a foundational tool for literacy development.
Today, my professional life is a dynamic combination of roles. I currently teach Cambridge Global Perspectives at the secondary level, support students working on their thesis projects, and deliver training sessions for teachers—primarily focusing on Phonics instruction and the Global Perspectives curriculum. These roles allow me to stay engaged with both students and fellow educators, fostering a deeper understanding of the evolving demands in English language education.
